Job Description
Serve as a member of the Post-secondary Education Rehabilitation Transition (PERT) Residential Team with responsibility for assessment of student needs and shared coordination and programming of recreational, leisure, and dormitory resources for youth with disabilities. PERT is an interagency school-to-work program jointly administered, managed, and directed by the Virginia Departments of Education and Rehabilitative Services. Other duties will include provision of a safe living and learning residential environment for PERT students and promotion of self-esteem and social and independent living skills.
Transportation of clients via sedan or van will be included in position duties.
Hours of work: Variable. Includes weekends. Typical schedules may include daylight and/or evening hours.
Individuals employed in hourly positions are limited to working a maximum of 1500 hours during a 365-calendar-day period. Hours of work for this position are anticipated to be approximately 30 per week, except during holiday periods and other scheduled time off. The hourly pay rate is negotiable from the minimum of the pay range, based on qualifications. Benefits are not included.

Minimum Qualifications
Knowledge of characteristics of adolescent behaviors and positive intervention techniques.
Knowledge of characteristics of diverse disabilities and implications for residential programming.
Knowledge of the needs of youth with disabilities and their families in the transition from school to work.
Knowledge of group dynamics.
Demonstrated ability to apply positive intervention strategies to challenging behaviors which may be presented in a residential setting and to use appropriate restraints in emergency situations.
Demonstrated ability to use client-focused advocacy and to communicate effective orally and in writing.
Demonstrated ability to anticipate and respond immediately to individual and group crisis or emergency situations and to enforce disciplinary measures while retaining the respect participants and staff.
Demonstrated ability to balance workload with competing organizational priorities and to complete work assignments both independently and as an effective team member.
Skill in use of a personal computer for communication and reporting purposes.
By date of employment, must possess a valid Virginia Driver's License.

Prefer direct experience working with youth with disabilities in a residential, education, recreation or rehabilitation setting.
