Visiting Assistant Professor of Biology
The Biology Department at Roanoke College seeks applications for two Visiting Assistant Professor positions beginning August 2014: one in the area of eukaryotic cell biology and one in the area of prokaryotic or unicellular eukaryotic biology. The positions are one year appointments designed to provide teaching experience at a small liberal arts institution for persons seeking full-time employment at such an institution. A Ph.D. (or equivalent) is required; post-doctoral research experience is preferred. The teaching load is three courses each semester.
Eukaryotic Cell Biologist: Teaching responsibilities will include our introductory course for majors in cell biology and genetics, our sophomore-level course in cell biology, and an upper-level course in an area of expertise.
Prokaryotic or Unicellular Eukaryotic Biologist (with preferred emphasis at the organismal or ecological levels): Teaching responsibilities will be primarily in our introductory sequence for majors that covers a broad range of topics from biomolecules to the diversity of life. Responsibilities will also include an upper-level course in an area of expertise.
Preferred applicants will have expertise in the identified fields, although all qualified candidates will be given full consideration. Scholarly work is encouraged and will be supported. Participation in department governance will be expected.
