Description

Roanoke College is accepting applications for the position of Director of Campus Safety.    Reporting to the Vice President for Student Affairs, the Director is responsible for the overall leadership and administrative direction to the Campus Safety Department and is responsible for developing and implementing policies, programs and services related to the welfare and safety of students, faculty, staff, and visitors.   In collaboration with others, the Director also safeguards the property owned and operated by the College and works to prevent crime and accidents within the Roanoke College community. As the chief safety officer, the Director has responsibility, and/or a consultative role for any program or event that has a safety, security or law enforcement component assigned.

Responsibilities of the position also include: supervision of campus safety personnel; overseeing criminal investigations while coordinating with local law enforcement agencies; supporting the College Student Conduct System by assisting with investigations and the adjudication of violations of policy; ensuring institutional compliance with federal, state and local laws; serves on the Campus Crisis Management Team, CARE Team and Threat Assessment Team; and assists in the deployment and revision of campus crisis/emergency management plans and protocols.

A bachelor’s degree is required, master’s preferred and 10 years of progressive leadership experience in law enforcement with significant experience in campus law enforcement. Completion of Policy Academy Program and familiarity with the laws of the Commonwealth of VA is also required.  Advanced law enforcement training or certification preferred.
