Open Enrollment 2017
October 26- November 9, 2016
Our 2017 Benefits Open Enrollment period begins October 26th! During the Open Enrollment period, all benefit-eligible employees must select their benefits for 2017, including those employees who want their benefits to remain the same and those employees who waive coverage. Employees have the option to elect the same benefits, add or change benefits, waive coverage, and drop or add eligible dependents. The following benefits will be available:
- Health Insurance
- Dental Insurance
- Flexible Spending
- Voluntary Vision Insurance
The College continues to review the costs of our benefit plans as well as the effects of the Affordable Care Act. Originally beginning January 1, 2017, Plan 1 (PPO) would no longer be provided, however after much consideration the Cabinet has decided to keep this plan in place for the 2017 plan year.
All benefit elections will become effective January 1, 2017 and remain in effect during the entire plan year unless the employee experiences a qualifying event such as marriage, birth/adoption of a child, or loss of other coverage. Please see the qualifying events summary for detailed information.
Benefit Enrollment Online
All benefit-eligible employees will select their benefits through their MyRoanoke account. Once logged in, you can view your current benefit elections, level of coverage, the dependents you cover and the available benefit options for 2017. Health Plan Information
Roanoke College will continue to offer three medical plan options all offered through Anthem Blue Cross Blue Shield and all health plan benefits remain unchanged with the exception of Plan 9 HMO.
Plan 9 will be changing from a gatekeeper plan to an Open Access plan for 2017. Under an Open Access plan, you will not need a primary care physician on file and you will no longer need to obtain a referral from your primary care physician to receive care from other participating providers or specialists. You will still however need to remain within the Anthem Healthkeepers network of providers when obtaining these services.

Prescription Drug Plan Information
Express Scripts will continue to provide our prescription drug coverage for 2017. The list of expanded preventive medications covered at 100% covered is listed below.
Express Scripts has provided a link to their Open Enrollment Pricing site for employees to check their prescriptions and to plan for any adjustment to their flexible spending contributions. Please see below to access the Open Enrollment site.
Dental Plan Information
Dental coverage will contunie through Ameritas Group. Please see the link below for Low and High Option summaries.
Voluntary Vision Plan Information
Uniview Vision will continue to offer voluntary vision which offers an enhanced benefit that includes both eyeglass lenses and contact lense benefits in the same year, increased out-of-network allowances and no formulary for frames or contact lenses.

Flexible Spending Information
Our flexible spending plan continues to be managed by LD&B Benefits Administrators located in Harrisonburg, VA. Employees have use of a "Benny" card. This card acts much like a debit card tied directly to your flexible spending accounts. When presented at your doctor's office and pharmacy, your medical charges are automatically deducted from your designated healthcare flexible spending balance. If you currently participate in flexible spending, you should retain your Benny Card for use in the new plan year.
Another feature of LD&B is that you will have immediate access to your account balances online through the LD&B website. Upon enrollment into the flexible spending plan, employees will be issued a PIN number that will allow access to submit claims and view balances. The College will continue to allow employees to roll over any remaining balance up to $500 for the 2017 plan year. You will continue to have a three-month run out period after the end of the plan year (December 31, 2016) in order to file your claims for 2016. Any remaining funds from your 2016 election (up to the $500 limit), will be included in your 2017 available balance. Roll over funds are only available for health care expenses.
If you are a current Flexible Spending participant, you must re-enroll each year through Benefit Enrollment Online. This benefit does not automatically continue each year.
