Homework #3

Instructions. This is due on February 15 at the beginning of class. It is worth 20 points. Late papers lose 4 points if turned in by 8:00 Monday morning, plus 3 points per additional day late. You must work by yourself, but feel free to consult with me. Explain what you did and why you did it: good explanations are essential! Start early, ask questions and do well.

Introduction. In this assignment, you will explore an “accident” that causes Simpson’s rule to work better than you would anticipate. This accident is part of the reason that Simpson’s method is considered an excellent method: you get good accuracy for a small number of calculations.
