The legendary Salem Sabres, coached by Donn Samsa, ruled for four years from their home base of Salem, Virginia. The Sabres played in the U-10 through U-13 divisions of the Blue Ridge Classic League and competed in various tournaments in Tennessee and Virginia.
The Sabres won the Blue Ridge Classic league in fall 1999 with a record of 6-1-1 after finishing second in spring 1998 at 8-1-1. The Sabres won the 1999 Bristol tournament and defeated teams representing each of the top soccer programs in southwestern Virginia. The Sabres were known for their foot skills and teamwork. It was a great four years for players and parents.
