Preparing for Health Profession Schools
Academic Preparation: While many students choose to major in one of the sciences, it is not required to pursue a health career. Students are encouraged to take full advantage of the liberal arts education available at Roanoke College. Regardless of major, every student preparing for the health professions should acquire a strong background in the sciences and demonstrate an ability to carry a rigorous course load. Students often work on research projects independently and in collaboration with faculty and participate in internships, community service and extra curricular activities.
All health career schools stress the need for a high grade point average and good entrance examination scores (e.g., DAT, MCAT, or PCAT). Students should study for and take these examinations in their junior year of college. The Health Careers Advising Board has resources to help Roanoke College students prepare for the requirements for admission to graduate schools.
"Mock" Professional School Interviews:
The Health Careers Advising Board is dedicated to assisting students prepare themselves for candidacy for health related post graduate programs. We strongly encourage all students to meet with the group in a formal “mock” interview to help us get to know you better, and to offer you the chance to experience a professional school-like interview, and to offer you feedback on your performance.
