Merida

Casa Millsaps is the residential and teaching facility in the city of Merida. This facility is in a secure neighborhood, with easy access to shopping and restaurants.

Students share bedrooms and there are faculty accommodations. Breakfast is prepared daily by the cook on staff. The facility has comfortable classroom space, meeting and social space, internet, kitchen, and laundry room.

The city of Merida is the capital of the Yucatan region with approximately 830,000 residents.  It is a safe and friendly city, with all the typical amenities of a large city.  There are beautiful colonial buildings and large plazas.

Merida has interesting cultural sites to visit, including the new Gran Museo del Mundo Maya with an extensive exhibit of local Mayan history and anthropology.

With Merida as your base, you can visit cathedrals, archaeological sites, haciendas and cenotes.

Merida is also home to CICY, a science research center and graduate school, which is one of Roanoke's partners in the Yucatan.  In addition to scientific collaboration, CICY's botanical gardens are an excellent site to visit to learn about regional flora and fauna.
