The first film of this year's International Film Series is Bong Joon Ho's masterpiece, "Memories of Murder," a 2003 murder mystery. In his breakthrough second film, Bong showed his mastery of the police procedural while fully reimagining 1980s South Korea. Combining a gripping procedural with a social portrait of uber-misogynistic officialdom in 1980s Korea, Bong fashions a haunting journey into ever-deepening darkness that begins as black-comic satire and ends as a shattering encounter with the abyss.
