Virginia Program at Oxford
Roanoke College is a joint sponsor of this summer program housed at St. Anne's College, University of Oxford, England. The university is England's oldest, one of the most prestigious in the world and students are eligible to participate in numerous Oxford institutions, including the famed Bodleian Library.
Between late June and early August, a select group of students from participating Virginia colleges will have the unique opportunity to study at St. Anne's College. The program follows the English system, combining lectures and weekly tutorials conducted by Oxford dons. Tutorial groups are small, allowing for considerable individual attention and active participation. All participants will reside at St. Anne's College in single rooms and will take their meals in the college commons.
Course topics available include literature, history, society of late 16th and early 17th century England, and the Elizabethan, Jacobean and Caroline periods. Upon successful completion of the program, the student will be awarded two units of transfer credit, one unit in literature and one in history.
Cost
Approximately $8,500.
This cost includes full tuition, room, board and group excursions to the Royal Shakespeare Company productions in London and Stratford-upon-Avon. Not included is the cost of transportation, passports and incidental expenses. Upon successful completion of the program, the student will receive 1 unit in history and 1 unit in literature. Students from all years and majors are encouraged to apply and the possibility of a second summer conducting independent research is available to qualified students.
