Ma Rainey, Bessie Smith, Sippie Wallace, Ella Fitzgerald, Billie Holiday, Carmen McRae - These women of blues and jazz have played an important and often unrecognized role in American music. This entertaining and educational program will give audiences insight into the lives, times and musical influences of American female blues and jazz artists from the 1920's through the 1950's. Interspersed with anecdotes from the fascinating and colorful lives of these women are performances of the songs most representative of their musical styles at different points in their careers. The musicians are Barbara Martin, Court Stewart on piano and Bob Bowen on bass.

This event is sponsored by the Office of Community Programs, the Fine Arts Department and the Performing Arts Series.

This event is free and open to the public.  Tickets are not required.
