Service Learning

Some classes in the department incorporate optional community service projects in lieu of traditional research papers. Tutoring at an after-school program and providing childcare for women who are in residential substance abuse programs are great examples as to what service projects are available in a few of the
department courses.

Other service-based class projects are linked to college-sponsored fall and spring break Habitat for Humanity building blitzes and extended weekend experiences such as Urban Plunge, where you work in homeless shelters in Washington DC, or Appalachian Plunge, where you do home repairs for rural residents.
