How will you personalize your Biology Degree?
Get hands on experience conducting your own research. Students can earn academic credit or a summer stipend working with a biology professor in their lab. Other students have had amazing research experiences at our local hospitals or at a university anywhere. Ask your advisor how you can add research to your plan. Check out even more research opportunities here.
Interested in a Health Care Career?
Whether your goal is to be a Physician, Physician Assistant, Physical Therapist, Genetic Councilor, Pharmacist, Veterinarian, Nurse Practitioner, or any other health related career, plan your way through Roanoke with our Health Professionals Advisory Group (HPAG). Connect with HPAG and receive the needed support to find your world.
Add a Minor or Double Major
Make yourself stand out and individualize your education at the same time. Popular minors for Biologists are Spanish, Biochemistry, Chemistry, Studio Arts, Psychology, and Environmental Studies. If one major is not enough for you, be like other Maroons and combine a B.A. in Biology with Public Health or Spanish or Environmental Studies or make you own Major Mash Up.
Complete an Internship
Sounds hard but it is so easy. Earn academic credit with a paid or unpaid internship or even an appropriate summer job. There are so many choices from interning at the Bradley Free Clinic to the Mill Mountain Zoo. Ask your advisor or Career Services about how to find an internship. Here is the form to earn credit.
Spend a semester or a year on the other side of the world. We have many types of Study Away programs. Students' favorite Study Away adventures have been in Europe, New Zealand and Australia. Where will you go to change your world? Start by visiting our Study Away Page or the International Education Office.
