The COVID19 pandemic is the largest and most significant crisis of our lifetimes — this pandemic has forever changed the world and the landscape for the future. Those who embrace the crisis and see the opportunity will survive much in the same way we survived The Great Recession of 2008. Those who long for the past and the established comfort of a prior life will be disappointed. There are multiple opportunities in multiple industries and career pathways. To help recent grads and job seekers understand these changes, Susie Faries, CEO, SciMed Partners, a life sciences and green/clean/sustainability firm based in Silicon Valley, will share her perspectives on the great opportunities for the future.

Barbara Sue "Susie" Faries is CEO of SciMed Partners, a life sciences and emerging technologies consulting organization. She is also co-founder and former CEO of InnovaMedix, Inc., a wireless medical device start-up with applications in emergency medicine and trauma and sports/fitness. She recently co-founded Vydar Medical, which focuses on the monitoring space with critically ill and COVID19 patients.

SciMed, headquartered in the San Francisco Bay/Silicon Valley area, is a global consulting firm with more than 65 senior level executives in multiple disciplines. The company helps innovative companies commercialize and integrate market, business development, R&D, technology, and intellectual property strategies and operations. The firm also provides support for M&A activities as pre-diligence and diligence.

Faries has held senior executive level positions with major U.S. corporations including Vice President of Marketing for American Medical Response, the largest provider of emergency medical services in the US (AMR is now Envision with revenues of more than $10B) and Vice President of Marketing for American Medical Pathways, the $300M healthcare technology subsidiary of American Medical Response. Her background also includes General Electric and Philips Healthcare.

Ms. Faries sits on the Advisory Boards of Innovation Center Denmark, Palo Alto, CA, and SECCO2 Engines, Inc., a near-zero emission engine company, Pleasanton, CA. She is an investment reviewer for ASTIA, funding organization for high-potential women-led businesses.

She was named to a mentorship at The Global Social Benefit Institute at The Miller Center for Social Entrepreneurship at Santa Clara University. Her mentoring activities focused in healthcare/medicine and green/clean/sustainability. She is currently a mentor to start-ups in The Clean Tech Open (Western Division) in the green/clean/sustainability space.

She graduated with an M.B.A. in Market Strategy from Regis University, Denver, CO. She holds a B.A. from Roanoke College, Salem, VA.  She has post-graduate work at The Wharton School, University of Pennsylvania and Stanford University. She is a member of Alpha Sigma Nu, the national honor society of Jesuit colleges and universities, focusing on academic achievement and extraordinary service in social justice.
