President Shushok will be joined by four panelists. Dr. Johnson will offer a 15-minute thought-piece followed by a panel conversation moderated by President Shushok.
President’s Forum Panelists:
Dr. Sylvester A. Johnson, the founding director of the Virginia Tech Center for Humanities
Dr. Sylvester Johnson is a nationally recognized humanities scholar specializing in the study of technology, race, religion and national security. He is also associate vice provost for public interest technology at Virginia Tech and executive director of the university’s Tech for Humanities Initiative. His award-winning scholarship is advancing new approaches to understanding the human condition and social institutions of power in an age of intelligent machines and other forms of technology innovation.
Dr. Nathan O. Hatch, President Emeritus, Wake Forest University
Dr. Nathan O. Hatch spent his entire career in higher education – first as a professor and scholar, intriguing the minds of young thinkers; next as an administrator, including as Provost at the University of Notre Dame and as Wake Forest’s 13th president. Hatch is regularly cited as one of the most influential scholars in the study of the history of religion in America. His book, The Democratization of American Christianity, garnered three awards, including the 1989 Albert Outler prize in Ecumenical Church History and the 1990 John Hope Franklin Prize as the best book in American studies.
Dr. Eileen Hulme, Chancellor, Indiana Wesleyan University – National & Global Campus
Prior to coming to Indiana Wesleyan University, Dr. Eileen Hulme distinguished herself while serving in a variety of executive and leadership roles, including the Chief Acceleration Officer and Associate Vice President for Professional and Graduate Student Enrollment at Warner Pacific University, Vice President for Student Life at Baylor University, and Vice President for Student Life and Chief Information Officer at George Fox University.
Dr. Robert D. Kelly, 21st President, University of Portland
Prior to joining the University of Portland, Dr. Robert D. Kelly served as Vice President, Special Assistant to the President, and Clinical Professor at Loyola University Maryland, with responsibility for mission and identity, intercollegiate athletics, student development, emergency management, diversity, equity, and inclusion, and more. He has held senior administrative and teaching positions at Loyola University Chicago, Seattle University, and Union College, among other universities.
