Teresa Gereaux, gereaux@roanoke.edu false MM/DD/YYYYAre you a student involved in research? Are you interested in improving how you communicate about your research? This workshop is for you!
Whether you're engaged in an independent study with a faculty member, completing a group research project as part of a capstone course, or conducting research with an organization off-campus, you're invited to participate in a workshop run by Prof. Danielle Barre of Theatre Roanoke College.
By the end of this workshop, you should be comfortable and prepared to share your incredible work with your grandmother, your 6-year-old niece, your friends and everyone in-between.
Keep an eye out for information about the Nutshell Games Competition, scheduled for 6 p.m. April 18, which will give you the opportunity to show off this improved skill for a cash prize! Yes, you can win money by simply sharing your research in a 90-second talk to a broad audience of people who have no idea what your research is about.
If the judges deem you the best communicator, you'll win $100. The second-place winner will receive $50. To compete, the only requirement is to participate in the workshop, submit a brief application and show up on the day!
Students from any department engaged in any kind of research are encouraged to register and attend the workshop, whether you intend to continue on to the Nutshell Games Competition or not!
Note: These events were inspired by a similar series of events hosted by Virginia Tech’s Center for Communicating Science. Roanoke College's series was developed collaboratively by Danielle Barre (Theatre Roanoke College) and Lauren Kennedy-Metz (Psychology Department).
