Internships

Internships are an outstanding way to gain job experience and course credit at the same time. Mathematics majors have done internships with a variety of companies; some examples are given below. In an uncertain economy, the contacts and experience gained in an internship are invaluable.

Emily Wooge, Roanoke Gas and Electric
Heather Cook, Biostudy Solutions
Taylor Ferebee, Wolfram Research
Eric Lee, Willis, Towers, Watson

"my professors set up an internship for me with NASA that helped me land my first job. What helps me do my job, though, is the broad-based education I got at Roanoke. i don't only need to analyze numbers, I need to be able to present my findings. Because I have a liberal arts education, I'm known as the math person who can actually talk to other people." - Ashley MacFarlane
