Student success is a comprehensive term that reflects the various facets of a student's experience at Roanoke College, with the goal of providing them with the necessary support, skills and opportunities to thrive academically, personally and professionally.
The Division of Student Success is wholly dedicated to fulfilling the Roanoke College mission and the goal of being “student ready, student first” in order to “foster student success and well-being.”
Student success falls into four primary categories:
Performance Excellence: Students should consistently demonstrate high academic performance, meeting or exceeding the institution's set standards and expectations.
Program Completion: Success is measured by year-to-year persistence and timely graduation, where students complete their degrees within an expected timeframe.
Personal and Professional Development
Skills Acquisition: Students should acquire a set of soft and hard skills that are crucial for personal development and future employment, including critical thinking, communication, teamwork and technical proficiency.
Career Readiness: Providing resources and support to prepare students for their careers, helping them secure employment or pursue advanced studies upon graduation.
Engagement and Satisfaction
Campus Involvement: Engaged students actively participate in campus life, joining clubs, organizations and extracurricular activities that contribute to a fulfilling college experience.
Satisfaction and Well-Being: Student success also considers students' overall satisfaction and well-being, ensuring they have a positive and enriching experience while feeling supported and valued.
Holistic Support Systems
Advising and Mentoring: Effective advising and mentoring programs are crucial for guiding students through their academic journey, providing support and helping them make informed decisions.
