Outdoor Event Spaces

Roanoke College's Back Quad is a large, flat, grassy expanse framed by mature trees and beautiful red brick buildings, including the historic Sections dorms and the Alumni Gym. It features a raised stage for performances and offers ample space and excellent accessibility for your guests. Not available during academic terms.

Commons Patio is a raised brick patio located outside the Colket Student Center, and it features comfortable patio furniture, large umbrellas, and a sweeping view of our lush Back Quad and historic buildings.

Roanoke College has been making memories on the Front Quad for almost two decades, and it's no wonder: This gently sloping, grassy space is accentuated by huge, mature shade trees and framed by historic brick buildings. The Heritage Walk, which bisects the quad, is the perfect place for that first stroll as a married couple. 

Why work to get your yard ready for an event when you can invite your guests to the Monterey Lawn? Our well-tended lawn is ringed by mature hardwood trees and framed on one side by historic Monterey House, which has been standing sentry on that corner of Salem since 1853.

It would be difficult to find a better view in all of Salem than the view from Sutton Terrace, an expansive brick patio that overlooks the college athletic fields and is ringed by mountain views. The terrace is outfitted with patio furniture and large umbrellas, and it is an A+ spot for mingling, dancing or roasting marshmallows under the stars. 

This outdoor amphitheatre is a charming, grassy outdoor performance space with a carpet of emerald grass and rolling brick walls that provide theater-style seating. Nestled between Olin Hall and Antrim Chapel, it is an enchanting location for any number of different event types.
