Vanessa Pearson

Vanessa Pearson is the 11th Roanoke College student selected as a Gilman Scholar. Pearson will spend the Spring 2019 semester in Australia at James Cook University taking psychology, education and Australian history classes.

Gabe Umland

Gabe Umland was selected for a Fulbright English Teaching Assistantship (ETA) in Indonesia.

Linnea Stewart

Linnea Stewart was awarded a Fulbright to India to study and conduct research on bird populations on organic and non-organic farms.

Destinee Harper

Destinee Harper is the 8th Roanoke College student appointed to the US-UK Fulbright Summer Institute. Harper will spend four weeks in June and July at the University of Sussex where she will study “Britishness and British culture.”

Olivia Streett

Olivia Streett is the 10th Roanoke College student to receive the Benjamin A. Gilman International Scholarship. This fall, Streett will study in Leipzig, Germany.

Maggie Fitzgerald

Maggie Fitzgerald received a Fulbright to teach English in Oviedo, a city in northern Spain. Fitzgerald graduated in 2018 as a history major with a minor in secondary education and a concentration in African and African Diaspora.

Kaitlin Busse

Kaitlin Busse received a Fulbright award to conduct research and study in Denmark at the Copenhagen Business School. Kaitlin graduated in 2018 with a psychology major, a sociology minor and a concentration in human resource management.

Casey Wilson

Casey Wilson received a Fulbright Summer Institute award for a program at the Aberystwyth University in Wales.

Jenna Novosel

Jenna Novosel received a Fulbright Summer Institute award for a program at the University of Birmingham.

Samuel McKnight

Samuel McKnight was awarded a Critical Language Scholarship (CLS) to study Russian language summer of 2018 in Vladimir, Russia. He is the first Roanoke College student to receive this competitive award.

Abigail Guarino

Abigail Guarino received a Fulbright to teach in Brazil. Abbe graduated in May 2017 with B.A.s in Psychology and Spanish.

Arianna Lewis

Arianna Lewis received a Gilman Scholarship to study in Paris, France.

Edyth Cisneros

Edyth Cisneros received a Fulbright ETA to teach in Mexico. Edyth graduated in May 2017 with a B.A. in Communications Studies and in Spanish.

Brieanah Gouveia

Brieanah Gouveia received a Fulbright US-UK award for graduate studies at the U of Glasgow in Scotland. Brieanah graduated in May 2017 with a B.A. in Art History. Previously, Brieanah received a Fulbright Summer Institute award for a program at Nottingham Trent University in the UK.

Savannah Scott received a Fulbright Study/research award for Austria. Savannah graduated in May 2017 with a B.S. in Biology.

Stephanie Shields received a Fulbright Study/Research award for Germany, as well as, a DAAD RISE for a summer research internship in Germany. Stephanie graduated in May 2017 with a B.S. in Psychology.

An alumnus, Christopher G. Earnhart, received a National Science Foundation (NSF) Graduate Fellowship for doctoral work in immunology. He graduated with a B.A. in Biology.

Ana K. Planavsky (whose area is evolutionary biology) received Honorable Mention in the 2000-2001 NSF competition. Ana graduated with a B.S. in Biology.

Matthew L. Roberts became a Finalist in the Truman competition (one of 5 from Virginia and 230 nationwide). He graduated with a B.A. in Political Science and a minor in Computer Science.

Adiyah A. Ali received a Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation Scholarship for Minority Students for this past academic year. She graduated with a B.A. in International Relations.

Brian B. Clark received a Udall Scholarship. Brian graduated with majors in both Environmental Science and Religion/Philosophy.

Susan M. Foster, an alumna, received a Fulbright Award for research in Guatemala, Honduras, and Nicaragua. Susan graduated with a B.A. in Psychology and a minor in Spanish.

Tania L. Connor made the Third Team and in 1995 Lora Schwehr received an honorable mention of the All-USA Academic Team; both were recognized in the USA Today newspaper. Tania graduated with a B.S. in Biology; Lora graduated with majors in both Mathematics and Physics.
