Teresa Gereaux, gereaux@roanoke.edu false MM/DD/YYYYA 10-minute detour to Wortmann Ballroom during your lunch break on April 20 could put you on the path to saving someone's life. Roanoke College is partnering with the National Marrow Donor Program to hold a drive in memory of Eddie Kaufman, a Roanoke College student and baseball player who lost his battle with leukemia in 2025.
Anyone between the ages of 18 and 35 can register as a donor, and all it requires is a quick cheek swab and answering a few questions. You are then entered into NMDP's secure database and could potentially be matched with any patient who needs a donation anywhere in the world. At that point, it is your choice whether to help. The donation process is easy—90% donate through a process similar to giving blood. The other 10% donate via marrow drawn from the hip bone while under anesthesia, returning to regular activity in as little as one day. All donation expenses are covered. The more donors in NMDP's database, the better chance for a life-saving match.
Please consider swinging by Wortmann between 10 a.m. and 1:30 p.m. on April 20. If you got entered into the database during our marrow drive last year, you do not need to register again— and thank you!
