Hopson is an associate professor of English and African American Studies in the Department of English at Western Kentucky University in Bowling Green. She has published essays, articles, and book chapters on the writing and life of Pulitzer Prize-winning novelist and womanist activist, Alice Walker, Third Wave feminist writer and intellectual, Rebecca Walker, and the late poet and intellectual, June Jordan. Cheryl’s forthcoming literary biography of the 20th novelist, anthropologist, and folklorist Zora Neale Hurston will debut with Reaktion Books (London, UK) in 2024. Her first full-length poetry collection In Case You Get This (Finishing Line Press) debuts in July 2023; FLP also published Cheryl’s chapbooks Fragile (2017) and Black Notes (2013). Cheryl is a 1995 graduate of Roanoke College. An English major, she was also a member of the RC Concert Choir, and a founding member of Shades of Maroon. Go, Maroons!
