Mapping Adventure Play
Mapping Adventure Play
Adventure play and playwork focus on allowing children to play freely based on their instincts, ideas, and interests without prioritizing adult agendas 1 . There are over 160 adventure playgrounds in the United Kingdom. These playgrounds strive to create places where play is self-chosn, self directed, and intrinsically motivated by the child.
The Data, Communities, and Playgrounds (DCPg) Project is a map of these UK playgrounds. Each entry on the map includes information about the history of adventure play and playworkers. Additionally, by region, each playground includes contact and location, the services provided, and photos and information when possible. The map is designed to help playgrounds connect, collaborate and grow as well as provide important information for the public to connect to the playgrounds where they are or where they may be traveling.
