Become a Promise Scholar

Embark on a transformative journey exclusively crafted for first-generation students. Our program  offers a supportive environment, collaborative learning spaces and resources tailored to your needs. Designed for students who want to actively participate in a community where there college story is celebrated and nurtured. 

Participants of The Roanoke Promise Program will:

  • Engage in a week long pre-semester program the week prior to Opening Day.
  • Reside within a dynamic living learning community in Shenandoah Hall.
  • Actively participate in an exclusive ROA 101 course, taught by an instructor who is themselves a first-generation college student.
  • To support Promise Scholars, they will also be awarded an annual $300 electronic stipend, semesterly $200 book stipend, semesterly $50 in Maroon Money and $1,000 deducted from the cost of housing in this living learning community.

Program Eligibility:

  • Be a first-generation college student. You are a first-generation if neither of your parents or guardians have completed a four-year college degree.
  • You are eligible for the Federal Pell Grant.
  • Be committed to activly participate in all elements of the program.
