Dr. Liz Ackley is a Professor of Health & Exercise Science and the Director of the Center for Community Health Innovation at Roanoke College, where she leads collaborative efforts to advance health equity through community-based research and strategic partnerships. She also serves as Director of the Roanoke Valley Community Healthy Living Index, a grassroots health surveillance initiative that tracks youth health trends and informs local policy. A nationally recognized leader in community-based health research and recipient of the prestigious Outstanding Faculty Award from the State Council of Higher Education for Virginia, Liz is known for her innovative teaching and commitment to empowering communities through data-driven solutions and inclusive engagement. As the project lead for Roanoke City’s engagement in the national Invest Health initiative, Liz oversees cross-sector efforts to implement and assess equity-focused policy, systems, and environmental change strategies in Roanoke. Her work bridges academic research with grassroots action, helping communities use data and strategic partnerships to create healthier, more equitable places to live.
