The Center for Spiritual Life
Hello. You will find a welcome here. The Center for Spiritual Life is home to Maroons of all faiths and worldviews. Whether you are questioning who and whose you are or are strong in your faith, there is a group of people and many programs here for you to explore and become a leader in. Come and see us in Morehead Hall!
Chaplain Chris joined RC in 2013 and is here to coach all our students to a faithful and resilient life lived on purpose and for a purpose. Together, we explore life’s big questions and seek to build a community where inclusion, mercy, justice and loving kindness are our common threads. This is student-led work, and our center is blessed by the work of our Fellows, student interns, who serve as interfaith peer mentors.
We are rooted in a Lutheran approach to higher education. In fact, Roanoke College stands as the second-oldest Lutheran college in the nation (circa-1842) and is related to the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America. The tradition of Lutheran higher education is one that encourages curiosity and questioning and acknowledges that critical thinking and spiritual growth are both required for humans to flourish. Chaplain Chris is ordained in the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America and has served congregations in New England, Wisconsin and Virginia.
