Submitting Your Official College Transcript(s) and AP Scores
Once you have been admitted to the College, you will begin the process of requesting your transcripts to be sent to us. It is important that we receive official transcripts, not unofficial copies. If you completed dual enrollment courses (college courses taken during high school), you must also submit official transcripts from the institution that awarded the credit.
If you paid for your transcript, it is official. If you did not, it is likely unofficial. We cannot use unofficial transcripts, and you will not be registered for courses until all official transcripts are received.
College Transcripts
Request an official transcript directly from each institution that awarded you credit. If you attended multiple colleges, you will need to submit a separate request for each one.
Transcripts should be sent electronically to Roanoke College Admissions (admissions@roanoke.edu).
Having your official credits on file ensures you do not repeat coursework and allows you to register for the appropriate next-level courses. Delays in submitting transcripts may impact the accuracy of your class schedule.
AP Credit & Competency (College Board)
If you have taken AP exams, you may be eligible for credit or competency at Roanoke.
To submit your scores:
- Log in to your College Board account
- Send your official AP score report to Roanoke College
- Students receive college credit for scores of 4 or 5
- Students receive competency for a score of 3
AP credit means you earn actual college course credit (you don’t have to take that class), while AP competency means you’ve shown you know the material but did not receive credit. Competency lets you skip or place out of a course, whereas credit reduces the total number of credits you need to graduate.
Still Taking Classes At Your Previous Institution?
If you are currently taking courses at another institution, you should still send your official transcript now. Your transcript will show any courses that are in progress, and we can use that to begin the review process. Once your final grades are posted, you will need to request an updated official transcript.
This means you may need to pay to have your transcripts sent to Roanoke College more than once, and transcript request fees typically range from $5 to $15. Please plan accordingly for these costs.
For example, if you are finishing Spring 2026 courses but plan to attend Roanoke in Fall 2026, you must send:
- An official transcript now (showing in-progress courses)
- A final official transcript once grades are posted
This helps ensure you do not repeat coursework and allows you to move forward with registration.
What Happens Next?
Once we receive your official transcripts:
- Admissions will send them to the Registrar
- The Registrar will complete a Transfer Equivalency Report
This report shows:
- Which courses transfer to Roanoke
- What requirements they fulfill
Please note that not all courses from another institution will transfer. However, Roanoke has strong partnerships with the Virginia Community College System (VCCS), which often allows for more seamless credit transfer.
Because of this, some students may find they are slightly behind compared to staying at their previous institution. Your advisor will review this with you and help you build a plan.
Once your advisor receives your Transfer Equivalency Report, they will:
- Reach out (if they have not already)
- Schedule a meeting with you
- Register you for courses
Outreach to incoming transfer students will begin Friday, May 1, 2026. To avoid delays, please submit your official transcripts as soon as possible.
