Shields heads back to Germany with Fulbright

Stephanie Shields '17 has been selected for a 2017-18 Fulbright U.S. Student Award to Germany. She will be doing research in Munich, Germany on vocal learning - the capacity to learn to produce new sounds through imitation - in the bat Phyllostomus discolor.

Cisneros receives Fulbright ETA to Mexico

Edyth Cisneros earned a Fulbright Student Award teaching English in Mexico. She also will be working on a mini documentary series about the other side of immigration - those left behind.

Dr. Mark Miller, the David Bittle College Historian, will speak at the Harrison Museum of African American Culture on Tuesday, April 11. Miller is joined on the program by Dr. Idella Goodson Glenn, of Hollins University. Each will be addressing their institution’s 175th anniversary and some of the history involved in the development of each college.

Former Roanoke presidents receive College medal

Dr. David Gring and his wife, Susan, and Dr. Norman Fintel and his wife, Jo, received Roanoke College medals during an awards luncheon in the College's Cregger Center on April 7. Norm Fintel, who had been battling cancer, passed away on April 7.

Norm Fintel, Roanoke's eighth president, spearheaded significant growth at Roanoke from 1975 to 1989. The campus grew with the additions of the Bast Center, Olin Hall, the former Roanoke County Courthouse and the purchase of the Elizabeth campus. Enrollment and endowment grew as well.

Wicander earns Fulbright ETA to Spain
April 05, 2017
Kristen Wicander will be teaching English to children ages 6-12 in La Rioja, Spain. In addition, the Spanish and psychology major will be teaching social studies, science, and American culture.
