Abbe Guarino, a psychology and Spanish major who graduated in May, recently learned she received a Fulbright award to teach English in Brazil.

Stephanie Shields '17 has been selected for a 2017-18 Fulbright U.S. Student Award to Germany. She will be doing research in Munich, Germany on vocal learning - the capacity to learn to produce new sounds through imitation - in the bat Phyllostomus discolor.

Kristen Wicander will be teaching English to children ages 6-12 in La Rioja, Spain. In addition, the Spanish and psychology major will be teaching social studies, science, and American culture.

Roanoke College students have earned a record number of Fulbright awards this year. Five students, all women, learned this month that they would be doing research and studying in Austria, Spain, Mexico, Germany and Scotland with the prestigious Fulbright program.

Roanoke students interning in Washington, D.C., are gaining a unique perspective on the presidential election by living and working in the nation's political epicenter.

"The hardest part was climbing over the railing and stepping down onto the ledge," Camac said. "I didn't look down."

Sara Dorrance received $5,000 from Psi Chi for a research project on people's dependence on cellphones.
