This year six seniors are semi-finalists for the prestigious and highly competitive Fulbright student scholarships that facilitate study, research, and English teaching assistantships (ETA) around the globe.

Vanessa Pearson ’21, the 11^th Roanoke College student selected as a Gilman Scholar, will spend the Spring 2019 semester in Australia at James Cook University taking psychology, education and Australian history classes.

Dr. Martha Kuchar recently served on a Fulbright national committee to screen student applications for Fulbright’s ETA program.

"In the three weeks we had in Seoul, South Korea, we learned more about North Koreans, Korean society, media representations, inter-culture marriage, and education of refugees than we initially hoped."

Adam Johnston is the third student to be awarded a Fulbright this year and he was granted the English Teaching Assistantship in Brazil.

Olivia Streett is the 10th Roanoke College student to receive the Benjamin A. Gilman International Scholarship. She will study in Leipzig, Germany this fall with the Roanoke program led by Dr. Robert Willingham. 

Rising sophomore Casey Wilson and rising junior Jenna Novosel have been selected by the US-UK Fulbright Commission to experience the UK through the Fulbright Summer Institute. 

Liam Lambert, a double major in physics and math, is Roanoke's fourth Goldwater. 

Kaitlin Busse '18 has received a Fulbright award to conduct research and study in Denmark at the Copenhagen Business School. She is the twelfth Fulbright student recipient at Roanoke College. 

Samuel McKnight, a sophomore, has been awarded a Critical Language Scholarship to study Russian language this summer in Vladimir, Russia. He is the first Roanoke College student to receive this competitive award.
