The International Sociology Honor Society, Alpha Kappa Delta (AKD) was established in 1920 at the University of Southern California. In the spring of 1978, ten charter members were initiated into the Roanoke College chapter, the Eta Chapter of Virginia. Since then, students have been tapped for membership each year, participate in an induction ceremony each April, and wear an AKD cord at commencement ceremonies.

Eligibility Requirements:
Students in the American Sociological Association’s (ASA) Honors Program attend and participate in the annual meetings in August. To be eligible, students must be at least a junior, have a 3.5 GPA overall and in Sociology, submit a short essay, and be nominated by a faculty member. Deadline is March 1.
