Roanoke College dedicates Athletic Performance Center to its first lacrosse All-American
July 02, 2026
During Alumni Weekend 2026, Roanoke College’s Athletic Performance Center was dedicated and renamed in honor of William “Dox” Doxanas ’72, an impactful Roanoke College alumnus.
This transformative space reflects Doxanas’ generous support and the commitment of fellow donors who have helped reshape the way our student-athletes train, recover and compete.
As a member of the men’s lacrosse team at Roanoke, Doxanas earned the college’s first lacrosse All-American honor, helping to elevate the program’s stature in Virginia. As a college athlete, Dox’s first love was lacrosse, but he also excelled in basketball and was named Intramural Athlete of the Year.
Doxanas was inducted into the Roanoke College Athletic Hall of Fame in 1978, and his No.16 jersey was officially retired. After graduation, he continued his passion for sports and later welcomed student-athletes and community members to the family-owned Bel Loc Diner, Inc. in Parkville, Maryland.
Doxanas was a forerunner in Roanoke College lacrosse and a key member of the 1965 team. His leadership paved the way for countless Roanoke College student-athletes.
“The Doxanas Center enhances our ability to train safely, effectively and competitively,” said Roanoke College Athletic Director Curtis Campbell. “It allows us to elevate performance, reduce injury risk and provide individualized training that supports each athlete’s development. But what excites me most is what this space represents: Belief in our programs. Belief in our coaches. Belief in our students. To our donors and partners—thank you for investing in our vision.”
