International relations student Damien Fellows ’26 has been awarded a second Critical Language Scholarship (CLS), meaning that in just a few months, he’ll be back on a plane heading to South Korea.
Last year, Fellows received a CLS and traveled to South Korea for an immersive learning experience in what seemed like a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity. The competitive, national scholarship allowed him to study Korean in an intense and experiential format, packing one year of college language courses into just eight weeks.
Now that he has been awarded another scholarship, he will spend two months at Pusan National University in Busan this summer. During his time there, he will have a language partner to practice Korean with while living in the dorms with another student.

The CLS program is funded by the U.S. government and implemented by the American Councils for International Education. It gives students critical language learning skills and intercultural awareness. To learn more, visit https://clscholarship.org/.
