Intramural Referee

Overview

The Intramural Referee is a valuable component within the Intramural Sports program that is responsible for staff supervision, equipment setup and breakdown, and implementing game rules. Though all intramural staff members are still allowed to play intramurals, employment may require the individual to make working a priority over participating in the program.

Hours

  • 6-8 hours per week
  • Mostly in the evenings but may work during the day or on weekends

Responsibilities

  • Be on time and ready to work when scheduled
  • Setup equipment for Intramural Sports contests and breakdown at its conclusion
  • Understand the rules and officiating techniques for the various sports offered
  • Educate participants on sport rules and promote good sportsmanship
  • Implement rules fairly and consistently during Intramural Sports contests
  • Respond to emergency situations according to level of first responder training
  • Attend regular Intramural Sports meetings throughout the year
  • Keep an accurate record of hours worked by clocking in and out correctly
  • Submit bi-weekly timesheet when due
  • Other duties as assigned

Qualifications

  • Must be a currently enrolled student in good standing
  • Prior knowledge of sports rules and strategies preferred
  • Effective communication skills
  • Desire to work as part of a team
