Public Health Studies Program
As a student in Public Health Studies, you will develop the skills to understand and help address the root causes of health inequities in your community and beyond. Our core curriculum includes internships, research, and collaboration with local community partners, enabling you to make real change and form lasting connections with public health professionals. You will learn critical skills in analysis, assessment, communication, and leadership in public health, and will also choose from electives across multiple disciplines to support your unique interests. Through your experiences inside and outside the classroom, you will be prepared to make meaningful contributions in healthcare, public service, and beyond—all with the aim to create a healthier and more just world.
Why study Public Health at Roanoke?
- Interdisciplinary Approach with Real-World Relevance. Roanoke’s liberal arts foundation prepares students. Because of the interdisciplinary nature of our program students can easily enhance their Roanoke College experience with a double major or a minor in Public Health. The importance of public health to students in a variety of majors (i.e. HEXS, Environmental Science, Psychology, Disabilities Studies, etc.), cannot be overstated, and we make it easy to take advantage of this opportunity.
- Career and Graduate School Ready. With a focus on research, global health, and health equity, students are well-prepared for careers in healthcare, community organizations, health analytics, and for advanced study in medicine, nursing, public health, and more.
- Hands-On Learning with a Global Perspective. Students gain practical experience through data analysis, case studies, and community engagement, while developing a global understanding of disease prevention, health systems, and social determinants of health.
