What Membership in Sigma Phi Eta Means 
Membership in Sigma Phi Eta signifies distinction, purpose, and responsibility in the field of public health. It recognizes individuals who have demonstrated exceptional academic achievement, but more importantly, those who embody a sustained commitment to health equity, ethical leadership, and community engagement. 

To be inducted into Sigma Phi Eta means: 

  • You are recognized for excellence: Membership acknowledges your academic accomplishments and dedication to understanding and addressing complex health challenges.
  • You are part of a community of scholars and changemakers: Inductees join a network of peers, faculty, alumni, and professionals who share a commitment to improving health outcomes and strengthening communities.
  • You are committed to health equity: Membership reflects a pledge to advance fairness and justice in health, using knowledge and action to reduce disparities and support thriving communities.
  • You lead with ethics and integrity: As a member, you are expected to uphold the highest standards of character, responsibility, and professionalism in both academic and real-world public health contexts.

Alpha Epsilon Delta

Alpha Epsilon Delta is the National Health Pre-Professional Honor Society dedicated to the encouragement and recognition of excellence in preprofessional health scholarship. Roanoke’s chapter, Virginia Theta, welcomes all students engaged in the pursuit of professional development, provides a forum for students with common interests, and extends a program of service to benefit the college community. 

Here at Roanoke College, eligible Public Health Studies students will receive invitations to join the Virginia Theta chapter. Membership requires achieving and maintaining high scholastic standards and engagement in community service.
