Annually, faculty in the major may recommend as Senior Scholar a student whose work in that field has been most exemplary. To be considered, a student must have at least a 3.2 overall average and must have earned at least 25 units of credit, of which at least 17 units have been earned at Roanoke College. Eligibility is determined from among currently enrolled students based on their academic records as of the end of the Fall term.
A prize awarded annually in honor of alumnus and Trustee Dr. Paris Butler. Dr. Butler was an early and strong supporter of the development of the Roanoke College Public Health Studies program and its students. The prize goes to the public health student (major or minor) who has submitted the most outstanding paper dealing with health equity in any course.
A prize awarded annually in memory of Dr. Edward James Hamilton, who served as the Director of Academic Grants and Foundation Relations and taught grant proposal writing from 2002 to 2015. The prize goes to the students with the best grant proposal or work supporting a grant proposal submitted in the Public Health Studies Community Health Seminar.
A prize awarded to the student whose work in the community best exemplifies community-based research and/or service. This award also represents a core value of Roanoke College developing engaged citizens, with attention to community, inclusivity, and service to others.
