Roanoke College is pleased to welcome Mark Campbell, who will serve as interim vice president for enrollment strategy and student success. Campbell joined the college’s senior leadership team on June 3 and reports to President Frank Shushok Jr.
Campbell, who boasts more than 25 years of higher education leadership experience, specializes in guiding institutions to wide consensus around an enrollment vision and developing a holistic, campus-wide strategic enrollment plan to implement that vision. He will examine every aspect of the student journey at Roanoke, from recruitment to graduation, guiding the college’s efforts to support students and prepare them for a rapidly changing future.
"We're at a pivotal moment at Roanoke College, and getting enrollment strategy and student success right is at the heart of everything we're building,” Shushok said. “Mark's track record speaks for itself, and I'm confident he'll help us grow in ways that are good for students, good for our community, and good for the long-term health of this institution."
Campbell has honed his expertise as a vice president for enrollment and/or student affairs at leading higher education institutions around the country, including The Cooper Union, The New School/Parsons School of Design, San Francisco Art Institute and Berklee College of Music. He also led enrollment efforts at Quest University Canada, McKendree University, Illinois School of Professional Psychology and the American Schools of Professional Psychology.
At previous institutions, Campbell’s work has led to significant enrollment and revenue growth, as well as stronger application numbers. He has also improved applicant quality, yield, retention and graduation rates, in addition to achieving targeted diversity goals.
Campbell holds a graduate degree in education from the University of Windsor in Ontario and degrees in economics and geography from Mount Allison University in New Brunswick. He is a former NCAA basketball official and a published songwriter.
“I am honored and excited to join the Roanoke College community,” Campbell said. “The institution’s longstanding commitment to a student-centered campus deeply resonates with my own values and career. I am grateful for the opportunity and anxious to get started in supporting President Shushok and the entire campus in achieving the strategic priorities of the college.”
