This summer, Roanoke College will host the inaugural Root & Rise Symposium, an event focused on exploring the future of the cannabis market in Virginia.
The symposium will take place in the Cregger Center from July 23-25, 2026, and will cover topics such as cannabis policy, market development, licensing pathways and the evolving role of hemp businesses in regulated cannabis. It is expected to draw leaders across policy, research and business sectors who will engage in on-campus activities and off-site programming that encourage deeper connection, fresh perspectives and open dialogue.
Root & Rise will facilitate connections among people who are actively shaping the cannabis industry, including policymakers, researchers and operators. It is designed as an immersive experience, pairing keynote sessions and expert insights with interactive programming, hands-on experiences and student career opportunities. At a time when Virginia’s cannabis market is rapidly growing and evolving, this symposium will provide a vital space for collaboration, discussion and networking.
Roanoke College is at the forefront of emerging fields, exemplified by its cannabis studies program, the first of its kind in Virginia. The program offers a science track and a social justice and policy track, both of which were designed to prepare students for leadership roles in one of the fastest-growing global industries. Roanoke’s program also offers a holistic curriculum that strives to establish scientific, policy and business education industry standards across not only the region and state, but the nation.
With a long-standing tradition of fostering intellectual curiosity, leadership and real-world readiness within a vibrant, close-knit campus community, Roanoke provides an ideal setting for meaningful dialogue, making it a fitting and inspiring host for Root & Rise.
