Tom Bowers, a Marine Corps veteran who has served as Salem’s commonwealth’s attorney for 20 years, was recognized at the annual Salem Appreciation Breakfast for his servant leadership and dedication to justice, safety and community.

The center is designed to equip students, staff, faculty and the community with skills to engage with one another across differences.

Students are embracing new courses in American Sign Language.

Thanks to advocacy from his supervisors in Campus Safety, one student received a scholarship to help fund his college education.

Jon Murrill, Charles Price and the Roanoke Cultural Endowment are this year’s recipients of the Perry F. Kendig Awards. 

Jon Murrill ’09, an accomplished artist who has painted eye-popping murals in the Roanoke Valley and beyond, will paint a mural at Maroon Village and deliver an Oct. 24 lecture about public art in Olin Recital Hall. This fall’s incoming class includes the college’s largest-ever group of transfer students. 

Williams, who was selected after a national search, has built several programs and campaigns from the ground up at Eastern University in Pennyslvania.

The partnership strengthens the college’s work to create programs that support the lifelong well-being of students.

Ryan King, who joins the Roanoke College administration on Monday, Aug. 4, holds a Ph.D. from Virginia Tech and most recently served as the innovation manager at Carilion Clinic.
